Breaking: Derrick Foster Is Expected To Join The New Orleans Saints’ Offensive Staff
Rumor has it that Derrick Foster will be hired by the New Orleans Saints to serve as their new running backs coach. Matt Zenitz of CBS and 247Sports broke the story first, and Nick Underhill of New Orleans Football later confirmed it.
For the past three seasons, Foster has served as the Los Angeles Chargers’ running back coach. He spent three seasons as the Iowa Hawkeyes’ running back coach before that. In 2012, he joined the University of Tennessee as an offensive assistant coach.
Last season, the Chargers were 25th in the NFL in terms of rushing production. They had been ranked 21st in 2021 and 30th the year before. Austin Ekeler, a running back with the Chargers, is regarded as one of the best all-purpose backs in the NFL and was crucial to the Los Angeles passing offense.

With openings as wide receiver coach, Foster becomes a part of the redesigned offensive staff in New Orleans. Pete Carmichael, the longtime offensive coordinator, has been replaced by Klint Kubiak.
Ronald Curry will be replaced as the quarterback coach by Andrew Janocko. Doug Marrone is replaced as the offensive line coach by John Benton.
Of the team’s offensive position coaches from the previous campaign, only TE coach Clancy Barone is still in place.
Last season, New Orleans was 31st in yards per run and 21st in rushing yardage. Arguably the most versatile back in the NFL is dynamic RB Alvin Kamara. After joining the Lions as a free agent from Detroit, Jamaal Williams had a quiet first season.
However, in 2022, he led the NFL in touchdowns with the Lions, rushing for 1,00 yards. Kendre Miller, a rookie selected in the third round, missed most of the season due to injury but finished with incredible promise.
