The San Francisco 49ers will play the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII, and their victory could complicate matters for the New Orleans Saints in their ongoing hunt for an offensive coordinator. As other teams are making announcements about hiring, including grabbing up three of the nine candidates who were invited to interview with the Saints, impatient fans have already questioned the team’s search for a new play caller.

However, the Saints will have to wait until after the Super Bowl to formally make their intentions known and put ink to paper if they have their sights set on any 49ers or Chiefs personnel. Two important Kyle Shanahan assistants, quarterbacks coach Brian Griese and passing game coordinator Klint Kubiak, have already been interviewed. Although there hasn’t been word of a second interview with New Orleans for either candidate, one may be scheduled.

They also won’t be allowed to move into a new office until after they have finished coaching the championship game in February. Coaches hired away from Super Bowl-contending clubs in recent years, like as former Los Angeles Rams offensive coordinator Kevin O’Connell and former Philadelphia Eagles coordinators Shane Steichen and Jonathan Gannon, have experienced this. From their prior teams, they each took a large number of assistants and support personnel.

Fans will therefore need to hurry and wait for action if that is the course of action that the Saints want to take. While some clubs move more quickly than others, New Orleans has remained committed to taking its time. Hopefully, it will help them make the best choice and yield outcomes that Saints supporters can be happy with.
