In 2024, Andrus Peat will not play for the New Orleans Saints.Peat will likely sign a contract on Monday afternoon with the Las Vegas Raiders, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. He had nine NFL seasons as a Saints player.
In the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft, Peat, 30, was selected by New Orleans with the 13th overall pick, coming out of Stanford. That season, he was one of six offensive linemen selected in the first round and the third overall.
Peat, who played tackle in college, was supposed to start at right tackle for the Saints. As a rookie, he would play in 12 games, starting eight of them. Peat began the 2016 season as the starting left guard after failing to unseat incumbent starter Zach Strief from the right tackle spot. During that season, he started 15 games for the team, including a few starts on left tackle in lieu of the injured Terron Armstead.
Peat gained recognition as one of the league’s top interior linemen for run blocking during the ensuing years. He would occasionally cover for an injured Armstead at left tackle, but it was obvious that he had made himself at home inside.

As a member of one of the league’s top lines from 2018 to 2020, Peat was named to the Pro Bowl three times in a row. His injuries were the only real grievance. He had never participated in a full season of play, and he missed a total of 31 games due to injuries between 2018 and 2022.
Six games into the 2023 season, the Saints used reserve Peat to take Trevor Penning’s spot at left tackle, who was not doing well. Playing in a career-high 16 games and racking up his highest number of offensive snaps (809) since the 2017 campaign, Peat had one of his greatest seasons.
Many thought that following the selection, Peat would eventually return to the Saints after he entered free agency. Rather, it seems like his time in New Orleans is now over.
