Brian Daboll, the head coach of the Giants, is thinking about taking over play-calling in 2024.
In light of the offensive setbacks the New York Giants experienced in 2023, head coach Brian Daboll acknowledged on Tuesday that he may assume play-calling responsibilities.
According to the team’s official website, Daboll stated, “It’s something I’m looking into,” at the Annual League Meeting.
“At this stage in the league, I believe there are twenty head coaches that call plays (either offensively or defensively). .. There could be a small amount extra. I’ve been researching this a lot, but I haven’t decided. I’m still going through that process and considering our course of action.”
Daboll’s ability to run a dynamic Buffalo Bills offense—of which he was the play-caller and architect for four seasons—was a contributing factor in his hiring as head coach of the Giants. Offensive coordinator Mike Kafka has mostly been in charge of making decisions since taking over in New York.
The fact that Daboll is thinking about going back to his roots as a play-caller emphasizes how crucial the 2024 season is.
Of course, he replied. “I spent a lot of time doing it. There are numerous factors involved. In addition to the evaluation I mentioned, there are a few additional topics I’m investigating. I take my time and act in the team’s best interests.”
If Daboll finally assumes play-calling duties, one consequence will be how it impacts other facets of his head coaching duties. That being said, one would assume Daboll has the ability to balance all aspects of the job if the Shanahans, McVays, and LaFleurs of the football world can pull it off.
Daboll stated, “We’re still going through that process.” “A large number of people do that these days. So once more, I’ll investigate into it. We do whatever I believe is best for the football squad.”
