Developing story: “I was heartbroken on Sept. 11 in the locker room, thinking my career might be over.” – Aaron Rodgers

Aaron Rodgers, the quarterback for the New York Jets, recently acknowledged on the “icanfly” podcast that he was afraid of worse things after he tore his Achilles tendon four offensive snaps into the 2023 regular season.

According to Andy Vasquez of NJ Advance Media for NJ.com, Rodgers stated, “I was heartbroken on Sept. 11 in the locker room, thinking my career would be done and that’s how I’m going to go out.”

Not long after his injury, Aaron Rodgers—who turned 40 this past September—made a suggestion that he would attempt to pull off what would have been an incredible comeback to the field before Week 18. Then, by mid-October, it was evident that he meant business if the Jets were going to be in the postseason come late December.

Rather, Gang Green dropped six out of seven games and five games in a row to go from 4-3 to 5-9 until more composed minds won out.

The greatest memory of Rodgers’ time with the Jets is still “running on the field on 9-11, carrying an American flag, something I had never done in my life,” he remarked. It was truly meaningful to run across the field on a day when our nation endured a significant tragedy 22 years ago. And then to have everything taken away.”

In order to assist the Jets develop around him for at least the following season, Rodgers took a pay cut last summer. He also stated earlier in the offseason that he intends to play for another “two, three, or four more years.” While admitting that September 11 was “one of the most tragic nights” of his life, he also talked about how, in the six months that followed, “so much altered in my life that would not have happened had I not been carted off the field” that fateful Monday.

“However, all of this beauty has only occurred in the last six months, so how can I not be thankful to the universe for that? She is a stunning educator,” Rodgers continued.

Following a brief mention of Rodgers’ possible vice-presidential bid earlier this week, Jets owner Woody Johnson declared that the future Hall of Famer “is coming back to football 100 percent.” Although Aaron Rodgers seems determined to give the Jets everything he has in September, only time will tell if his body will let him to play for more than a few key plays.
