Sed new: the head coach of New York giant has been sign to suspend two players due to……
In July 2021, New York Mets manager Luis Rojas was suspended for two games and fined an undisclosed amount by Major League Baseball (MLB) for excessive arguing with umpires during a game against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The incident occurred on July 18, 2021, during the first inning of a game at PNC Park in Pittsburgh. With the bases loaded and the Mets trailing 3-0, Pirates batter Kevin Newman hit a dribbler down the third-base line. The ball started in foul territory but spun back toward the line. Mets pitcher Taijuan Walker attempted to make contact with the ball while it was still foul, but replays showed the ball was touching the chalk when he hit it, leading the home plate umpire to call it a fair ball. This misplay allowed all three Pittsburgh runners to score, resulting in a 6-0 deficit for the Mets.
Rojas immediately ran out to argue the call and was ejected from the game. He expressed frustration over the umpire’s decision, stating, “I got hot because it was a bad call. He made an embarrassing play. That’s what led me to escalate the way I did.”
Following the ejection, bench coach Dave Jauss took over managerial duties for the remainder of the game. Despite the early deficit, the Mets rallied to win the game 7-6.
The suspension and fine were imposed by MLB for Rojas’s excessive arguing with umpires, emphasizing the importance of maintaining professionalism and adhering to league standards. Rojas expressed understanding of the league’s decision, stating, “The league’s got to do what they gotta do. We know how sometimes things get heated up.”
This incident highlights the challenges managers face in maintaining composure during high-pressure situations and the consequences of actions that deviate from expected conduct.
