Breaking news: New York Yankees offer top prospect + $10.8 million for Chicago White Sox star slugger in blockbuster trade proposal following…

Would the New York Yankees be willing to trade their top prospect to bolster their World Series chances?

The Yankees’ top prospect, 21-year-old Jasson Dominguez, had a brief stint in the majors last September. However, his .179 batting average, .617 OPS, and defensive challenges led manager Aaron Boone to start Alex Verdugo in left field during the playoffs instead. Despite these struggles, Dominguez’s youth and potential leave Yankees fans optimistic about his development next season.

However, an article by MLB.com’s Anthony Castrovince on November 28 proposed a bold trade idea involving Dominguez. The suggested deal would send Dominguez to the Chicago White Sox in exchange for center fielder Luis Robert Jr. and left-handed pitcher Jake Eder, the White Sox’s No. 22 prospect.

Robert, entering his age-27 season, had a down year in 2024, posting an 87 OPS+ and 1.4 bWAR. His performance was hampered by a hip injury and the challenges of playing for a struggling White Sox team. Despite this, Robert remains a dynamic player with power, which the Yankees could benefit from, especially if they don’t re-sign Juan Soto. He’s under contract for $15 million in 2025, with team options at $20 million for 2026 and 2027.

For the White Sox, acquiring Dominguez would mean betting on his long-term potential despite his injury history, including Tommy John surgery in 2023, and an underwhelming 18-game stint in 2024. Castrovince noted that Boone’s decision to favor Verdugo in October might reflect concerns about Dominguez’s readiness, but for a rebuilding team like Chicago, his high ceiling is worth the risk.

While the Yankees may hesitate to part with their top prospect, trading for a proven player like Robert could align with their immediate goal of maximizing their World Series chances in 2025.
