So sad: ‘I’m sorry, but I can no longer continue’. -Jazz Chisholm of the New York Yankees cries out as he announces his…

The New York Yankees formally acknowledged the injury that will prevent star Jazz Chisholm from playing for an indeterminate period of time during a wave of roster changes that were made on Wednesday.

Chisholm was formally put on the 10-day injured list by the Yankees due to what they described as a left elbow injury.

The worst-case scenario appeared to be that Chisholm might have strained his UCL while sliding into home plate on Monday night’s game against the Chicago White Sox. However, it looks less likely now.

Chisholm’s official diagnosis notwithstanding, there is no timetable for his return. Before the tests were conducted in the days that followed the initial setback, he was remarkably upbeat about it not being a permanent injury.

Even with only 14 games under his belt, Chisholm was a vital member of the Yankees starting lineup. He was providing the energy, speed, and power that had been lacking for the previous two months.

Chisholm was slashing in the 14 games that had passed since the major deal before the July 30 deadline.316/.361/.702 in 61 plate appearances with an 189 OPS+, seven home runs, eleven RBI, and five stolen bases.

With the exception of a few plays, his abrupt transfer to third base and team-first mentality were a welcome addition. He also appeared to be improving in terms of his comfort level at the hot corner.

As part of the roster changes on Wednesday, the Yankees recalled Oswald Peraza from Triple-A. However, they may still investigate a seasoned alternative from outside the organisation to replace Chisholm.
