Just In: 2 key Manchester City stars are set to miss PL clash against Newcastle

Manchester City will be without Erling Haaland and John Stones against Newcastle United

When Manchester City plays Newcastle United this weekend, two key players will be absent, according to manager Pep Guardiola. Without John Stones and Erling Haaland, the Cityzens will have to work hard to get closer to leaders Liverpool.

Due to a foot ailment, Haaland, the top scorer in the Premier League, has missed a lot of games this season. The striker from Norway has not been seen for the champions since their defeat to Aston Villa on December 6.

Haaland is still not available to be selected for the game against Newcastle United, according to Pep Guardiola. Before losing to them in the Carabao Cup, the Cityzens defeated them by a single goal in August in their league debut.

Despite spending weeks in training, Haaland is not yet prepared to rejoin Manchester City’s Matchday squad. The 23-year-old is anticipated to make a quick comeback to action after missing their FIFA Club World Cup campaign in Saudi Arabia.

Guardiola’s team will be missing John Stones for the match at St. James’ Park in addition to Erling Haaland. Due to an ankle injury sustained during the league victory against Everton two weeks ago, the 29-year-old centre back is still sidelined.

With 14 goals and 4 assists in 15 league games this season, Haaland has been the Cityzens’ regular outstanding self. Stones has only made eight league appearances for Manchester City this season due to a string of injuries.

Manchester City set for key clash against depleted Newcastle United

This season, Newcastle United has had a lot of injury issues. Joelinton, a versatile player, is the most recent casualty. In their last ten games across all competitions this season, the Magpies have suffered seven losses.

Manchester City is improving after a dismal domestic performance in November and December. They have won five straight games and have not lost in the last eight in all competitions.

Kevin De Bruyne’s eagerly anticipated injury comeback last week gave the Cityzens a significant lift as he contributed an assist in only a few minutes. Due to a medical condition, forward Jack Grealish is questionable to play in the match.

The Cityzens are in third place in the league, and Newcastle United is in ninth. They should be able to move up to second position in the rankings, two points behind leaders Liverpool, with a victory.
