Newcastle surpassed their transfer record to sign Isak from Real Sociedad last month, and the attacker scored on his debut for the club against Liverpool.
Eddie Howe and Newcastle are confident that they have recruited a player with enormous potential who will develop with the club in the coming years.
Merino played alongside Isak at La Real and believes he has made an effect at Newcastle so early in his time in England.
He emphasized Isak’s willingness to adapt to the requirements of his squad, noting that he did the same when he first joined Real Sociedad in 2019.
The Spaniard feels his pace and strength make him an excellent forward for the Premier League and is confident that he will be a huge success at Newcastle.
Merino told The Athletic that Alex has already started well.
“His outlook is really positive.
“He can adjust to anything you teach him.
“When he arrived here, he had to adjust to a very specific system of play in which he had a certain duty to perform an exact movement when the ball was in a given position.
“His ability to adapt and his Swedish heritage demonstrated his intelligence.
“With his ability, speed, and strength, the Premier League is an excellent fit for him.
“He’ll be fantastic for the Magpies!”
Isak is likely to lead the line for Newcastle when they face West Ham at the London Stadium on Sunday in the Premier League.
