Humza Yousaf, Scotland’s first minister, called allegations that he may have had a conflict of interest in providing cash to Gaza a “far right conspiracy” and a “outrageous libel.”
In November 2023, the UNRWA agency received a donation of £250,000 from the Scottish government. Simultaneously, millions of people were unable to evacuate the enclave, including Mr. Yousaf’s parents-in-law.
On Saturday, the Daily Telegraph revealed externally that Mr. Yousaf was facing accusations of disregarding the advice of officials about the allocation of between £100,000 and £200,000 to Unicef, a distinct UN body.
Mr. Yousaf said in a series of tweets on the social media site X, now known as Twitter, that the article was a “Islamophobic attack” and that it was an attempt to associate him with terrorism.
“I’ve fought accusations from sections of the media trying to associate me with terrorism throughout the most of my political career, even though I’ve spent my entire life advocating against it,” he stated.
“These attacks are based on Islamophobia, and the latest one comes from the Telegraph.”
