Sad News for Kansas City Chiefs’ Wide Receiver as he is Ruled OUT of the Super Bowl LVIII Matchup

The Kansas City Chiefs are making an effort to become part of an elite group in NFL history. In just five seasons, they might capture their third NFL Championship if they prevail in Super Bowl LVIII. Additionally, they would become only the ninth team in NFL history to win consecutive Super Bowls. Patrick Mahomes, the starting quarterback, would go on to become just the fifth quarterback in Super Bowl history and the first to do so before turning thirty.

As the 49ers attempt to snap a 28-year Super Bowl drought after winning five titles under Joe Montana and Steve Young, the Chiefs have a lot riding on their game against them. All of these things, though, will need to be done by Kansas City without one of its wide receivers.

“A league source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter that Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney is not expected to play in Sunday’s Super Bowl LVIII.”

Toney was a first-round selection in the 2021 NFL Draft by the New York Giants, but he hasn’t lived up to the hype. He caught 39 catches for 420 yards in his rookie season, but in the two seasons since, he has not even approached those totals.

Toney caught 27 catches for 169 yards and a score for the Chiefs in the previous season. He did, however, not participate in Week 15 when he intercepted a pass intended for a New England Patriots defender by tipping it. He had done that twice already this season.

When asked on Tuesday if Toney would play, Chiefs coach Andy Reid responded, “We’ll see,” adding that Toney has “been practicing, we’ll just see whether he’s up or not.”

For the AFC Championship game against the Buffalo Bills, Toney was ruled out due to ailments to his ankle and hip. But this week, before the Super Bowl, he was absent from the injury list.

Recallably, the former first-round selection was flagged for lining up offsides during a crucial play during the Chiefs’ game against the Bills during the regular season.
