Despite having a sluggish start, Lyles persevered in the last stages of the race to win by a mere 0.005 seconds. With a record of 9.784 seconds, the American won the gold medal, and Kishane Thomas came in second with a time of 9.789 seconds.
The American talked at a news conference held after the race about his upcoming 200m.With a pace of 19.31 seconds, Lyles holds the record for the third-fastest 200 meters ever recorded. He gave a clear message to his rivals by expressing his confidence in his performance.
