June 11 – The San Diego Padres defeated the visiting Oakland Athletics 6-1 on Monday night thanks to home runs from Jake Cronenworth and Fernando Tatis Jr. Dylan Cease also ended a five-start losing slide.
Over six innings, Cease (6-5) scattered eight hits and walked none, giving up just one run and striking out eight. It was his first victory since May 8, when he defeated the Chicago Cubs 3-0 on the road by striking out twelve and giving up just one hit in seven innings.

Oakland’s Joey Estes (2-2) took the loss after giving up three runs and eight hits in five innings. He struck out three and walked two. It was his first appearance after he shut out the Seattle Mariners 2-1 at home on Wednesday, giving just one hit over 6 1/3 innings.
Tyler Soderstrom, who is hitting his second home run of the season, got on a fastball in the second inning and sent it over the right-center-field fence, estimated to be 405 feet. This gave the A’s the lead.
After leading 2-0 in the count and hitting a 422-foot home run into the seats behind the right-center field wall in the third inning, Cronenworth launched his 10th home run of the season to level the game at one.
In the fourth, Jackson Merrill doubled with one out and Ha-Seong Kim’s single to left scored to give San Diego a decisive lead. In the fifth inning, Tatis increased the lead to 3-1 with his 13th home run, which took his hitting streak to a career-high 16 games, off the top of the wall in right center.

Donovan Solano forced in a run with a walk, Merrill scored the second run with a single up the middle, and Kim completed the scoring with a sacrifice fly to the warning track in center.
Of San Diego’s ten hits, three went to Merrill, while two apiece to Cronenworth and Manny Machado.
Together, the two sides left 20 runners on base, with the A’s leaving 11.
The Padres’ pitchers recorded 16 strikeouts in total.
