Paula Badosa recently revealed some heartbreaking information in Indian Wells.
Badosa traveled to Indian Wells in hopes of recovering from her injury, but that is not going to happen.
Paula Badosa, the 2021 Indian Wells winner, has had yet another difficult setback as the former world No. 2 will not be returning to the desert.
Arriving in Indian Wells with the goal of beginning her Sunshine Double in the desert, Badosa had to withdraw due to injury from her Dubai first-round match three weeks prior.
Badosa even competed in the mixed doubles event at the Eisenhower Cup, a Tie-Break Tens tournament, on Tuesday with her partner Stefanos Tsitsipas.
Emma Raducanu explains why she is now “very comfortable” with her coach.
Badosa didn’t exhibit any symptoms at the Eisenhower Cup, suggesting that she was pain-free and prepared for Indian Wells.
However, Badosa pulled out of Indian Wells on Wednesday, one day ahead of her scheduled first-round matchup with Ashlyn Krueger.
Badosa has already retired hurt in two games this year, and he will once more be forced to miss some events due to injury after missing a significant chunk of the 2023 season owing to a back problem.
Although Badosa’s reason for withdrawing hasn’t been disclosed, it wouldn’t be shocking if the 26-year-old is once more experiencing back pain.
Badosa was upset to have to cancel her “favorite” Indian Wells event.
I apologize for having to withdraw from my preferred tournament. In a message that was shared on her Instagram Story, Badosa said, “I tried everything to be able to play, but it wasn’t enough.”
“I’m battling every day to return as soon as possible, even though I’m having a very difficult time with my injury. I want to express my gratitude to my supporters, especially those from the past year. I apologize for not meeting your expectations and for the bad news I’ve been sharing with you lately.
The final thing I want is for you to trust me. I also want to thank the tournament for the World Cup; you are the greatest tournament in the world. I want to see you again next year.”
Badosa won the Indian Wells tournament in 2021 to win both her maiden WTA 1000 title and her second WTA title. Even though Badosa has subsequently won three WTA titles, her greatest achievement to date is still her WTA 1000 victory in Indian Wells.
