Philadelphia advances to 4-0 as Jake Elliott defeats Washington in overtime.

Philadelphia In Week 4 at Lincoln Financial Field, the Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Washington Commanders 34-31 in overtime thanks to a game-winning 54-yard field goal by Jake Elliott.

Elliott’s winning touchdown was eventually set up by an 11-yard pass that D’Andre Swift received. Elliott saved the Eagles from certain defeat with the game-winning kick, but Jalen Hurts nearly cost them with an intentional grounding penalty.

Sam Howell shocked the home audience by guiding the Commanders on a 10-play, 64-yard drive in the last 1:43 of play, forcing OT with a 10-yard pass to Jahon Dotson as time expired. The Commanders had a chance to win it to begin overtime, but their first drive ended in a three-and-out. Howell completed with 290 throwing yards and a rating of 90.6.

With 1:43 remaining, Brown caught eight catches for 161 yards and two touchdowns, including the game-winning 28-yard reception.

 

It was one of his best games since joining the Eagles. On a 28-yard ball from Hurts, who finished with 319 yards and two pass touchdowns (112.3 rating), he outran Emmanuel Forbes to give the Eagles the lead.

Brown had a standout day, recording his second-most receiving yards in an Eagles game, which included the pass. Olamide Zaccheaus intercepted Hurts’ ball on a third-and-eight to gain 11 yards on the drive that gave the team the lead, just before the two-minute warning.

Brown then made a 10-yard reception to put them in Elliott’s territory, but two plays later, Brown scored the game-winning touchdown.

When Washington was attempting to take the lead, Haason Reddick made the biggest defensive stop of the quarter for the Eagles, sacking Howell with 4:24 remaining to force the Commanders into a third-and-long.

Reddick’s first-year sack caused the Commanders to punt, giving the Eagles the opportunity to score the game’s winning touchdown.

With 8:01 remaining, a touchdown run by Brian Robinson for Washington knotted the score. With a third-and-four at their own 46 and trailed 24–17, Terrell Edmunds’ needless roughness call on a Howell run prolonged the Commanders’ drive. Five plays later, Robinson’s 15-yard run for a tie scored for Washington.

Halfway through the third quarter, Hurts found A.J. Brown for a 59-yard touchdown throw that gave the Eagles their first lead of the game.

After Brown successfully avoided three defenders after catching a deep pass from Hurts, Philadelphia led 21–17 (Kenneth Gainwell scored a two-point convert).

One of the best games on the NFL schedule, this back-and-forth contest was undoubtedly one to remember. The main conclusions from the NFC East matchup are listed below.
