Falcons to Interview Eagles Ex Sean Desai For Defensive Coordinator Job

The Atlanta Falcons’ defensive coordinator search continues with another interesting candidate interviewing for the job.

The Atlanta Falcons have their head coach in Raheem Morris, and now their attention seems to be shifting to finding their next defensive coordinator.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, former Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Sean Desai is the latest candidate to interview for the same job with the Falcons.

Desai, 40, spent just one season with the Eagles as he took over for Jonathan Gannon, who left to become the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals last offseason. However, to say this season was a rough one for Desai would be an understatement.

The Eagles’ defense, which already lost major contributors last offseason, regressed dramatically this season. Still, with Philadelphia out to a 10-1 start, it was easy enough to forgive the defense’s shortcomings.

However, the bottom began to fall out after the Eagles lost back-to-back games against the San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys, both in blowout fashion. After that, the Eagles stripped Desai of his play-calling duties and promoted assistant Matt Patricia to be the de facto defensive coordinator. That decision predictably aged horribly, as Philadelphia continued to spiral and was eventually blown out in the Wild Card Round.

Overall, the Eagles’ defense finished 30th in points allowed and 26th in yards allowed, a sharp decline from the year before in both areas.
