Breaking news: following the departure of Kenny Pickett’s the Pittsburgh Steelers signs Justin Field as new…

Door Opens for Steelers to Add Justin Field

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers have moved on from their first-round quarterback, sending Kenny Pickett to the Philadelphia Eagles for a couple choice swaps. The move ends the two-year tenure in Pittsburgh for the former Pitt standout, and begins a new chapter at quarterback for the black and gold.

Russell Wilson figures to be the starter this season, but what comes next? The Steelers merely signed the nine-time Pro Bowler to a one-year deal, leaving them dry after 2024 at the position.

So, once again, the door has been opened for the organization to acquire Justin Fields from the Chicago Bears.

The trade value for Fields is diminishing by the day, and with no suitors to this moment, the Steelers may have lucked out in obtaining the Bears quarterback late in the offseason.

With an added third-round pick, the Steelers could easily make something happen, sending a mid-round selection to Chicago in return for Fields, who would become Wilson’s backup.

If the Steelers were looking for Wilson to tutor Pickett, why not do the same with Fields? Mike Tomlin loved him coming out of Ohio State, and if he’s worth nothing more than a fourth-round pick, it may be an easy call for general manager Omar Khan to make.

Few would assume the Steelers’ quarterback room would feature Wilson and Fields – and no Pickett – this season, but the door is now open. If Pittsburgh wants to strike at a young quarterback with potential, they have an opportunity to do so.

With Kenny Pickett’s departure, Justin Fields can now be signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers.
