Breinden Fehoko, an experienced nose tackle for the Los Angeles Dodgers, originally signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have re-signed nose tackle Breiden Fehoko, per the NFL transaction report. Fehoko was a member of the Los Angeles Chargers practice squad for the entirety of the 2023 NFL season after signing a contract at the beginning of the league.
It makes sense to sign Fehoko because Armon Watts and Montravius Adams are both set to become free agents. Fehoko is a potent run stuffer who proved it in the preseason and might end up making the squad as a rotational run defender despite his lack of playing time the previous season.
Ahead of the commencement of free agency, the Steelers have been extremely busy. The Steelers signed Fehoko again and cut wide receiver Allen Robinson to free up $17 million in cap space, which they can use to sign free agents beginning next week. They also released veteran cornerback Patrick Peterson.
In 2020, Fehoko became an undrafted free agent and signed with Los Angeles. Four of his 19 appearances were as a starter. Following Otito Ogbonnia and Austin Johnson’s season-ending injuries in 2022, he recorded a career-high 279 snaps. Fehoko recorded a tackle for loss along with 23 tackles.
One of the most reliable interior rushers for the Chargers this season was Fehoko. Los Angeles may turn to the draft to add depth now that he is with Pittsburgh and Johnson and Ogbonnia are still recovering from their respective injuries.
A year ago, Fehoko signed a free agent contract with the Steelers. On September 20, he was added to the 53-player roster after beginning the season on the team’s practice squad.
