An analyst explains why the Steelers Don’t Want Justin Fields
Pittsburgh Though not everyone is certain that the Pittsburgh Steelers will acquire Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields this offseason, they are still the heavy favorites to do so.
In an interview with NFL Report, Steve Wyche of NFL Network put a little sourness on the prospect of Fields visiting Pittsburgh. Why? Arthur Smith, the new offensive coordinator for the Steelers, might not be the biggest fan of the quarterbacks for the Bears.
I find this discussion about the Steelers fascinating since, according to Wyche, Arthur Smith did not want any part of Justin Fields during his tenure as head coach of the Atlanta Falcons. There was a chance he would be drafted. They acquired Kyle Pitts. Why would the offensive coordinator suddenly develop a soft spot for Justin Fields?
Wyche noted that Smith chose not to select Fields in the 2021 draft, despite the fact that Matt Ryan’s tenure with the Falcons was drawing to an end. Desmond Ridder was chosen by the team in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft after they opted to wait.
For this reason, the discussion about Arthur Smith and the Steelers and how he would be a wonderful fit… Why? Wyche said that Arthur Smith had never desired him. For what reason would he desire him now? I might be totally wrong, but I don’t see that.
According to reports, Mike Tomlin and the front office of the Steelers are huge supporters of Fields. Pittsburgh may want to avoid any disputes and try to assign their new offensive coordinator to the quarterback that Smith prefers if he is not a fan of the former Ohio State standout.
Mason Rudolph may be that fit, or it could be Kenny Pickett. The fact that Ryan Tannehill is connected to Smith in Tennessee has also eliminated him as a possibility.
