In response to criticism over his choice to leave his wife in the hospital last year, Rafa Nadal has shared a startling new insight about her.
Due to pregnancy-related issues, Xisca Perello, Nadal’s wife, had to be closely watched by medical professionals while she was in the hospital in Mallorca.
Since then, the couple has welcomed a healthy baby boy named Rafael Jr.; mother and child are currently in Australia in time for Melbourne to host the first grand slam of the year.
Before Rafa Jr. arrived, Nadal and Xisca went through a very trying few months, with Nadal having to leave her side several times because of tennis responsibilities.

When the Spanish champion chose to travel to America to compete in the US Open in September while Xisca was in the hospital, he received some harsh criticism from supporters on the internet. Before retiring, he also left her side to play doubles with the Swiss legend Roger Federer at the Laver Cup.
However, Nadal recently disclosed in an interview that his wife had encouraged him to play in New York and London, as it was Xisca’s dream.
“I’m lucky to have a brave woman in my life. He remarked, “And she has always supported me to keep going and assisted me in everything I could and more.
She therefore made things simple for me in that regard. Actually, she was the one who pushed me to visit America.”
Federer has already talked about the significance of having Nadal play beside him at the Laver Cup. Federer said, “I waited for him to finish that event before calling him after the US Open to let him know about my retirement.”
“I will do all in my power to be there with you, Rafael promised. And I can tell you that felt amazing. And it demonstrated once more how much we value and respect one another.
