Nick Montgomery was taken out by Gers midfielder Cantwell during the first-half
This is the moment Rangers star Todd Cantwell FLOORED Hibs boss Nick Montgomery, setting off a ferocious diatribe from Philippe Clement.
Not one, not TWO Hibs stars, Cantwell was sent hurtling into the Easter Road dugout area when Elie Youan and Kanayo Megwa collided with the midfield ace. Shortly before halftime, Cantwell was scythed down as he guarded the ball near the tunnel after Ridvan Yilmaz had put Gers ahead at Easter Road. And in a rather odd moment, Cantwell flew into Montgomery, sending him sprawling to the ground.
Ibrox boss Clement was not impressed as Cantwell seemed to get worse, clutching his hamstring on the deck, despite the sarcastic chants from the crowd. Clement became enraged and confronted referee Steven McLean, who drew the Belgian aside while trying to diffuse the tension.
There was a brief pause in action, but Cantwell and Montgomery quickly resumed. And just before halftime, Cantwell doubled the visitors’ lead with a magnificent long-range goal, giving him the last laugh.
Nevertheless, the beloved player by the Govan supporters had to be substituted at the break, and Clement will be crossing his fingers that the 25-year-old won’t be added to the Glasgow team’s injury list.
