The Toronto Raptors lost for the seventh straight game on Sunday night, tying the Memphis Grizzlies for the sixth-worst NBA record.
The Raptors of Toronto have been taking care of business.
Though everything may not have gone as planned at the beginning of the season, losing now appears to be the wisest course of action. They have lost nine out of the last ten games and all seven of their previous contests as of late.
This undoubtedly seems a lot like the conclusion of the so-called “Tampa Tank” for those who stayed to watch it back in 2021. The Raptors lost 11 of their last 13 games in that season, which helped them sneak into the bottom seven of the NBA Draft Lottery and ultimately secure the No. 4 choice.
Toronto has more motivation this time around because they lost their top-six protected first-round pick to the San Antonio Spurs during the trade deadline the previous year. But the tank is functional right now.
Toronto and the Memphis Grizzlies are now tied for the NBA’s sixth-worst record. Toronto would have a roughly 46% probability of keeping its first-round pick if it chose to jump the Grizzlies, and a 37.2% chance of selecting a pick in the top four of the draft.
Portland, which leads Toronto by 3.5 games but has lost four of the previous six, is making an effort to maintain its lead over the Raptors in the reverse standings. With Portland’s remaining schedule being as difficult as it is, it seems improbable that the Raptors will surpass the Trail Blazers. Nonetheless, Toronto would have a 64% chance of keeping its choice if they could only make it into the bottom five.
On the other hand, Toronto would have the seventh-worst record and a 32% probability of keeping its pick if it lost to Memphis.
