In less than two weeks, Zack Short will join his third team.
In exchange for monetary considerations, the Boston Red Sox transferred the 28-year-old infielder to the Atlanta Braves on Thursday. Only eight days have passed since the Red Sox acquired Short from the New York Mets on May 1st, likewise for financial considerations.
Short played in just two games with the Boston Red Sox, losing to the San Francisco Giants on May 2 and winning against the Minnesota Twins on May 5. In those two games, he went 0 for 7 with four strikeouts. On Wednesday, the Red Sox activated infielder Romer Gonzalez from the disabled list and designated him for assignment.
brief, a lifetime.169 Bat, who played for the Detroit Tigers for the previous three seasons, wasn’t anticipated to have much of an effect in Boston. However, his sudden departure is just the most recent instance of Craig Breslow, the team’s new chief baseball officer, keeping a tight rein on guys who aren’t playing well.
In the aftermath of Triston Casas’s rib injury, for instance, the team decided to start Bobby Dalbec at first base. However, Breslow intervened when Dalbec failed in just nine games, sending Dalbec to the minors and making trades for seasoned first basemen Garrett Cooper and Dominic Smith.
After just two games with Boston, Short has already left the organization and joined the Braves, who just defeated the Red Sox in a two-game series in Atlanta.
Nick Burdi of the Yankees will make his comeback on Friday, and DJ LeMahieu will perform live this weekend.
The Yankees’ manager, Aaron Boone, provided some updates on a few of his players, including the return of one of their injured relief pitchers, as the team prepared to wrap up their three-game series against the Houston Astros.
The Yankees’ three-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays begins on Friday, and Nick Burdi will get the call.
The Yankees think the 31-year-old right-hander is ready after he made one rehab appearance in Triple-A on Tuesday and struck out all three batters he faced.
Burdi played in the major leagues for seven games before suffering a hip injury that sent him on the injured list. During seven appearances, Burdi allowed just two hits in 6.1 innings while walking five batters. He did not allow an earned run throughout that span and also struck out eight batters.
Updates regarding DJ LeMahieu
Boone stated earlier this week that LeMahieu was scheduled to fly to Tampa with the team in order to maybe begin participating in baseball-related activities. Though it’s uncertain if LeMahieu will report for duty on Friday, the Yankees captain did acknowledge on Thursday that the plan is still for him to join the team in Florida.
Boone stated, “We want for him to join us and keep intensifying this weekend.” “I’m not sure when the live thing happens yet.”
Opening Day saw LeMahieu placed on the 15-day injured list due to a foot issue he sustained during spring training. A few weeks ago, it appeared as though the All-Star infielder was ready to make a comeback, but he suffered an injury.
This weekend’s live events bode well for the Yankees’ hopes of putting the former batting champion in the lineup as soon as possible.
