Red Sox All-Star To Be Dealt At Trade Deadline To Phillies.
The bullpen of the Boston Red Sox may have changed by the time of the Major League Baseball Trade Deadline in 2024.
There have been a lot of trade rumors circulating about Boston lately. The main narrative that has emerged around the bullpen concerns All-Star closer Kenley Jansen’s future.
Prior to the 2023 season, Jansen joined Boston in free agency and made an immediate impression, going on to become the only All-Star for the team.
The seasoned closer had 29 saves and a 3.63 ERA at the end of the season.
projected salary of $16 million in 2024
Due to his projected salary of $16 million in 2024, Jansen has emerged as a potential trade possibility as Boston appears to be searching for ways to reduce payroll.
Despite being connected to other teams, Jansen is still a member of the Red Sox.
Though it’s uncertain where he will end up right now, Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report anticipated that he would be traded before the trade deadline to the Philadelphia Phillies.
If it spends another year in the (American League) East basement, Boston would have quite an interesting fire sale, Miller remarked.
The Red Sox also have Chris Martin, Nick Pivetta, Tyler O’Neill, and Lucas Giolito on expiring contracts in addition to Jansen. Giolito has a $19 million player option for 2025 on a two-year deal.
“A number of teams could wind up interested in Jansen at the trade deadline, but Philadelphia is the team that is most likely to be looking for relief help.
The Phillies may trade for Jansen before the season even starts, according to rumors that have been circulating in recent weeks, but they’ll probably wait and see how things work out with Gregory Soto.
Seranthony Domínguez and José Alvarado prior to making a significant move.”
Jansen has been connected to Philadelphia, and a trade may make a lot of sense. It should not come as a surprise if the two teams collaborate on a trade, including the star closer.
