While Wimbledon is just around the corner, a familiar face from the competition is going to be in a new role this year. Although Roger Federer won’t be participating in the annual event, he is featured in a new documentary.

The last moments of the amazing tennis player’s career are captured in “Federer: Twelve Final Days”. The teaser for the feature-length documentary, which claims to show the athlete at “his most vulnerable and candid self,” discloses that the film was “never intended” for public consumption. The documentary, which is a must-see for all tennis enthusiasts, provides an up-close and personal look at the people who have stood by the sports great throughout his career.

Who is Miroslava ‘Mirka’ Vavrincová?

Federer has been in a loving marriage to Miroslava ‘Mirka’ Vavrincová since April 2009. A tennis star herself, Mirka started playing tennis in the late eighties after moving to Switzerland as a child. Their connection was instant when they met at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, both representing their countries. Mirka and Roger even competed together in the Hopman Cup in 2002 and were together for almost ten years before getting married.

In a secluded setting, the couple’s simple ceremony was held at the Wenkenhof Villa in Basel, the city where Roger Federer is from and where he won 20 Grand Slams. Even though Mirka was 76th in the world rankings and retiring from tennis early due to recurring foot injuries, Roger has often credited her with being a crucial part of his successful career.

Even after retiring from competitive tennis, the couple continued to support the sport, with Mirka being seen at courtside and accompanying Roger to Wimbledon in the past.

Alongside his 20 Grand Slam victories, Roger Federer also balances his life with four children. Shortly after getting married in Switzerland, he and Mirka had twin girls named Charlene Riva and Myla Rose in July 2009. Despite his busy schedule, Roger has described having his children as the ‘greatest day of our lives’ in a tribute to their birth.

The couple also had twin boys, Leo and Lenny, in 2014. Roger has spoken about his sense of pride when winning Wimbledon in 2017, with his wife and kids in the stands. “I looked up to see my kids, it all really came together for me,” he said. “I saw them for the first time, experienced centre court for the first time, and saw their reactions. It was emotional for my wife as well.”
