Tough times for the Detroit Lions Due to…..

Detroit: Before facing Matthew Stafford and the Rams in their first-round playoff match, the Detroit Lions had six players on the final injury report.

Following its NFC North Division victory, Detroit is hosting its first postseason match in the Ford Field era. Sunday night’s primetime opener between the Lions and Rams is scheduled.

The Lions had some serious injury concerns going into the final game of the regular season, particularly with their offense. Knee issues are plaguing returner Kalif Raymond and standout rookie tight end Sam LaPorta.

To stop Stafford, Cooper Kupp, Puka Nacua, and Kyren Williams, Detroit’s defense will require all hands on deck. Thankfully, that unit appears to be in excellent shape going into the postseason.

This is the complete list of injuries from practice on Friday:

WR Kalif Raymond is out with a knee injury.
Jerry Jacobs, a cornerback, is out (knee/thigh).
James Houston, an edge rusher, is out (ankle).
close to the end James Mitchell: out with a hand.
close to the end Questionable (knee) is Sam LaPorta.
John Cominsky: dubious (illness).

Detroit Lions is to extend quarterback Jared Goff, according to his agent.

Although the Detroit Lions offseason hasn’t officially begun—and hopefully it won’t for another month—one of the most important concerns facing this team is what will happen to the quarterback position going forward. Since the Lions selected Hendon Hooker in the third round of the last NFL Draft and Jared Goff is signed until 2024, there are those who think Detroit is preparing a backup plan for the 29-year-old quarterback.

However, Goff’s agent Ryan Tollner is certain that the quarterback for the Lions will receive an extension early in the offseason, according to an amazing interview he had with The Athletic’s Kalyn Kahler.

Tollner remarked, “They told Jared and me all the correct things, that (this season) is not about him needing to prove himself for another year.” Players always feel that way, of course. They will believe that you don’t fully believe in them if you don’t commit to a long-term relationship.

Naturally, an agent will always declare in the open that they think their client will receive an extension. Tollner’s statement, however, is consistent with all that this administration has been saying about Goff. Although it could be easily written off as positive publicity, general manager Brad Holmes and coach Dan Campbell have been steadfast in their support of their quarterback. Since taking over in 2021, this administration has been especially open and truthful.

At the conclusion of the 2022 season, Holmes stated, “I never truly deemed him as a bridge.” “I believe that everyone else did as well, but I believe that he is still somewhat biased because of what happened to him last year.”

In October, Campbell hinted about an extension in a somewhat indirect manner. Goff was being discussed as the MVP at the moment as Detroit jumped out to a commanding early lead in the NFC North.

“I don’t want to discuss contracts, what we have (or haven’t) negotiated. All I can say is that he needs to remain with us because he is performing at a high level,” Campbell remarked.

Although it’s difficult to predict with certainty what type of figures Goff’s team will be aiming for, it’s usually useful to have a look at the most recent quarterback deals to get a feel for the market. Giants quarterback Daniel Jones signed a four-year, $160 million contract during the 2023 offseason; Justin Herbert of the Chargers signed a five-year, $262.5 million agreement; and Joe Burrow of the Bengals signed a five-year, $275 million deal. But Goff is older than each of those three quarterbacks. Thus, things are a little different.

In any case, the announcement of a potential extension is not entirely unexpected, but it is the first from Goff’s end of the bargaining table.
