San Francisco Giants

— According to a report from Robert Murray of FanSided on Saturday, the Giants placed third baseman J.D. Davis on waivers, potentially signaling the end of the player’s time in San Francisco.
Following Matt Chapman’s one-year, $18 million contract signing with the Giants last week, Davis, 30, has been seen as a trade candidate. MLB Network insider Jon Heyman claims that although the Giants were unable to locate a trade partner for Davis and his $6.9 million contract, the Blue Jays, Mariners, and Cubs are among the teams that might still use assistance at third base.
The club has not confirmed the reports.
The Giants might release Davis and just have to pay a prorated part of his contract if he is not claimed. The existing Collective Bargaining Agreement regulations do not guarantee Davis’s full compensation because he defeated the Giants in an arbitration hearing last month.
Davis hasn’t appeared on the field since March 4 and wasn’t expected to start in either of the Giants’ two Sunday split-squad games.
After the Giants defeated the A’s 5-1 at Scottsdale Stadium, manager Bob Melvin stated, “There’s some stuff going on right now, so that’s why he hasn’t played.” “We’ll check in here in a day or two to see how things work out.”
With Chapman firmly established at third base and LaMonte Wade Jr. and Wilmer Flores anticipated to share time at first base, Davis, who hit.248 with a.738 OPS and 18 home runs in 144 games in 2023, will no longer have a regular role with the Giants.
Davis stated clearly that he would want to find a way to return to the starting lineup this year because he will be eligible for free agency at the end of the season.
Last week, Davis declared, “I would love to be a starter.” “I’d adore playing third base. My dream has been that. Being so close to home, playing in my backyard, donning the Giants jersey, and starting at third base is something I have experienced over the past year and a half. Naturally, some people prefer to play every game. That being said, there aren’t many options in this business. Certain things simply happen, and some front office staff members have different ideas about their team and the lineup they would like to see.
