A California native, Parkinson has returned to Southern California to join a hated division rival after four years with the Seahawks.

In the years since the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers, respectively, signed Sean McVay and Kyle Shanahan, the once-dominant Seattle Seahawks have lagged behind the opposition in the NFC West. The Hawks have only ever ended the season atop the division, during the pandemic-affected 2020 campaign, and have missed the playoffs three times since those two entered the division.

Colby Parkinson, a free agency tight end, appears to be taking the advice of the proverb “if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em,” as an NFL insider Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Parkinson will be joining a division opponent that is despised.

For a player who has missed the most of two seasons due to injury and only has 618 receiving yards and four touchdowns in his career, three years and $22.5 million is a big contract. But as a capable blocker who can move quickly and athletically once he has the ball in his possession, the 25-year-old might excel in Sean McVay’s offense—a scheme he should be fair to.
