Anthony Joshua burst into tears after losing his decisive fight with Oleksandr Usyk.
After failing to reclaim the unified WBO, WBA, and IBF heavyweight titles from his adversary Usyk, he was obviously upset in the ring after the fight.
Speaking in the early hours of the post-fight press conference, the former champion was overcome with emotion.
He struggled to convey how he felt as he gulped back tears and held his head in his hands.
“I don’t feel anything,” he stated at first, trying to cope with the aftermath of the loss, before admitting, “I’m upset deep down in my heart.”
In the immediate aftermath of the bout, he hurled two title belts from the ring, marched briefly out of the arena, then returned to grab the microphone, without allowing Usyk, the champion, to speak.
He rationalized his actions, saying, “I was upset with myself. Not at anyone; only at myself. So I thought I needed to get out of here because I was angry. When you’re angry, you may do stupid things.
“Then I knew it was sport. Allow me to do the right thing.
“Then I just spoke from my heart,” he added. “It’s been really difficult. You see AJ holding it together, and as a hustler, I try to hold things together by working hard, putting things together, and making sure my squad is good. But it comes at a high cost. It will never break me, but it takes incredible strength not to break you.
