Angel Reese continues to receive recognition in her early career, with the LSU basketball player being voted BET Sportswoman of the Year on Sunday. However, the 21-year-old felt “sorry” about it.
It’s not because she won or has concerns with the prize; rather, she was unable to attend the award ceremony in Los Angeles.
On Twitter, Reese expressed her gratitude for the amazing accolade, but she couldn’t help but express her sadness that she wasn’t able to personally accept the award.
“Thank you, BET! I’m sorry I couldn’t be there, but I really appreciate this! This means a lot. Reese wrote.
It is worth noting that Angel Reese defeated a number of outstanding ladies for the BET Sportswoman of the Year title. Her former LSU basketball teammate Alexis Morris was also nominated for the award, as were Candace Parker, Allyson Felix, Naomi Osaka, and Sha’Carri Richardson. Serena Williams, a tennis icon, was also nominated.
However, Reese clearly merits the honor. She helped the LSU women’s basketball team win the 2023 NCAA National Championship, defeating Caitlin Clark and Iowa in the final. She had 15 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists in their 102-85 victory.
For those who are unaware, the Black Entertainment Television network established the BET Awards. Its major objective is to celebrate and recognize Black entertainers and other minorities. While some believe it is solely for individuals in the music, film, and media industries, it also includes those in sports, among other things.
