(Reuters) – Former world number two Paula Badosa has ended her love engagement with fellow tennis player Stefanos Tsitsipas after over a year together in the spotlight, the Spaniard revealed.
Badosa and Tsitsipas made their relationship official on social media at last year’s French Open, and they have frequently been seen at one other’s tournaments, as well as posting images on their shared Instagram account.
However, the 26-year-old Badosa, who has slumped to number 126 in the world due to a series of injuries that have derailed her career, stated that the sport’s power couple, known as Tsitsidosa by fans, had parted amicably.
“After great contemplation and many precious moments together, Stefanos and I have chosen to amicably part ways,” Badosa said in an Instagram story on Sunday. “We have shared a journey of love and learning, and as friends with enormous mutual respect, we now chose to pursue our own paths.
“We appreciate the support of our friends, family, and everyone who has been a part of our journey. As we begin this new chapter in our life, we continue to wish each other nothing but the best in all of our endeavors.”
Badosa, a former French Open quarter-finalist, recently said that physicians advised her it would be difficult to continue her profession due to her severe back discomfort.
Tsitsipas, a two-time Grand Slam runner-up, fell out of his Madrid Masters opener last month, but the 25-year-old has had a nice run on clay otherwise.
He won the Monte Carlo Masters and finished second in Barcelona, preparing for the French Open, which begins on May 26.
