The thrilling strikes of Tyrique George and Dujuan Richards may have justified the point for Chelsea Under-21s, but they were unable to secure a late equalizer.
Chelsea had a task ahead of them after going behind early on, but when Dujuan Richards scored brilliantly for the second straight game, it appeared as though we would be heading into halftime. Though Max Merrick made an excellent one-on-one stop, Nottingham Forest managed to regain the lead thanks to a fortunate ricochet.
In the second half, they increased the lead to 3-1 with a volley that our keeper was powerless to save.In a stressful finale to the game, Tyrique George came off the bench to give us a lifeline with a superb strike from a tight angle. However, despite Leo Castledine and Kiano Dyer coming agonizingly close during added time, we were unable to produce another equalizer
In first setback
The visitors scored first on one of their first attempts to enter our box, which did not go as the Blues had hoped. Detlef Esapa Osong was able to deflect and lay off a loose ball that wasn’t completely cleared, giving Jack Nadin the opportunity to shoot into the top corner and deny Merrick any opportunity in the Chelsea goal.
Ryan Williams’ delivery and Richards’ aggressive running down the right gave us a brief opportunity to counter, but Forest held a 20-minute lead.
Reversing the trend
After Ronnie Stutter needed medical attention after an injury, there was a long pause in play for twenty-five minutes, giving Mark Robinson time to assemble his team.
The unfortunate Merrick was powerless to stop any of Forest’s three goals.
When we did eventually equalize, Richards’ strike was fantastic. He spun and turned one defender with a single touch, then he drove into space, found his place, and fired a 20-yard shot into the bottom-left corner. The Jamaican scored his first goal for the team in the 7-1 victory over Newcastle United last week, making it two goals in as many games.
