Last night, club authorities had to detain Dallas Mavericks’ player Luka Dončić due to a heckling fan.
During Game 2 against the Phoenix Suns, an unruly supporter wearing a Devin Booker shirt began heckling Dončić, yelling obscenities and “reckless” language at the All-Star. Dončić became agitated and needed to be restrained by team officials and security to prevent more harm.
The fan’s specific words are unknown, but it is known that Dončić dealt with the heckling from multiple spectators during the game. In front of a sold-out crowd in Phoenix, Dončić interacted with the fans on many times, including telling them to “calm down” after making a three-pointer.
Allowing rival fans to get into Dončić’s head, which he was attempting to prevent, is not a good look for him or his club. Following the incident, the Mavs lost control of the game, losing by 129-109. This put the Suns ahead 2-0 in the series, and they hope to go up 3-0 in Dallas tomorrow night.
“He was simply saying some reckless things, man,” Dončić explained. “I will not repeat that. Many fans say this because they understand we can’t do anything. If it was anything typical, I wouldn’t bother looking because I don’t care. When you’re in a terrible mood and they say something bad, it’s natural to turn around and be angry.
“He had a tremendous game, but no one else showed,” Mavericks coach Jason Kidd stated about Dončić. “We need to improve the shooting of the other players. We can’t win with only him out there scoring 30 every night, especially at this time of year. And we’re facing the top club in the league, so we need to get the other guys going.”
