Darwyn Encarnación, a former New York Mets prospect, died at 21 in a horrific vehicle accident in the Dominican Republic.
Hector Gomez, an MLB insider, said the player jumped off a bridge while driving his automobile.
Darwyn Encarnacion Batista, a 21-year-old former professional outfielder for the New York Mets, died in a traffic accident after colliding with the Arenoso bridge and falling into the void in La Vega, according to his Twitter account.
The former outfielder survived the severe collision, but died later in the hospital. He is remembered as a great human being and very disciplined.
“He was a wonderful human being, incredibly disciplined, respectful, and polite. He only played with us for one year, in 2019. He was even using the scholarship the team provided him when he signed and was now attending college,” stated a Mets school executive in the Dominican Republic.
In March 2019, he signed a minor league contract with the Mets and went on to play for their Dominican Summer League squad. He had 113 at-bats in 35 games, with one home run, ten steals, and a.248 batting average. He was released in October 2020.
El Nuevo Diario, the local newspaper, published a video of the crash, which showed Encarnacion’s car entirely damaged.
