Juan Carlos Ferrero has advised Carlos Alcaraz to “look in the mirror” of the Big Three, after his charge admitted to doing things incorrectly during his injury absence. Alcaraz made his long-awaited return to competition in Argentina last week, after his 2022 season was cut short by an abdominal ailment, before injuring his leg in pre-season training and missing the Australian Open. The 19-year-old won his seventh career victory in his first tournament in more than four months, but later admitted that he did not approach things in the “correct” way during his absence from the circuit.
“I felt a little guilty after the injury,” the world No. 2 admitted. After suffering following his US Open title triumph last September, his coach has advised him to turn to Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer as examples.
“If he has talked about that, it is because it happened,” Juan Carlos Ferrero told RNE when asked about Alcaraz’s statements. “I believe it inspires him that he achieved the top so young. He must look in the mirror of Rafa, Roger, or Novak to achieve something that no one else has, and they have persevered in their pursuit of these goals.”
