Gray has been engaged in a public feud with Everton head coach Sean Dyche. He has now officially left the club on a permanent move. Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq have brought him to Saudi Arabia for an estimated £8 million.
Gray has now expounded on his reasons for leaving Everton, having previously accused Dyche of not treating him with respect. In a parting speech posted on Instagram, the Jamaica international thanked the ‘amazing’ Everton fans while also revealing that he did not believe he would have received much game time if he remained at Dyche’s disposal.
Gray stated, “After two years with Everton, it’s time to say goodbye.” I wish everyone at the club the best of luck and will always be pleased to have played for this fantastic team.
“To the fans: you were always great; thank you for your support. You made it a privilege to wear the shirt.
“There’s been a lot of talk regarding my circumstances this summer. The truth is that I gave my everything to this club both on and off the pitch, in good times and bad.
“I was prepared to play as much football as possible this season, but it appeared that this was not going to happen. It is time for my new chapter. I am match fit and eager to start playing.”
Demarai Gray joins the Gerrard revolution.
The 27-year-old is the latest high-profile addition to Gerrard’s squad, following Jordan Henderson, Moussa Dembele, Jack Hendry, and Georginio Wijnaldum.
Prior to his departure, Dyche responded to Gray by claiming the player had secured his move without the club’s approval. The tale has finally come to an end.
Gray will join his new club following the international break, during which he will represent Jamaica.
