A little rough love goes a long way. I’m sure Caitlin Clark had the finest intentions in this situation, and she wanted to do everything she could to keep her Iowa Hawkeyes from losing to a 16th seed. She plays with a genuine attitude, which contributes to her widespread popularity among basketball fans. Not to add that she is the female playstyle counterpart of Steph Curry. It’s no surprise that the women’s Final Four is significantly outselling the men’s.
But I have to agree that Clark’s father is completely correct in this situation. You can see at the end of this clip, following her latest airing of grievances, he appears to order her to physically shut up.
It’s fantastic that Clark cares so much, but let’s take a step back and look at the big picture. You’ll be playing against Holy Cross. Caitlin Clark could receive no foul calls whole game or have all whistles blow in Holy Cross’ favor, and the Hawkeyes would still win by double digits. Clark ended with 27 points, eight boards, 10 assists, and three steals in Iowa’s 91-65 victory, but only making eight of 19 shots from the field. In other words, she drew a lot of fouls and went to the line for nine of the Hawkeyes’ 27 free throw attempts, compared to the Crusaders’ twenty.
The finest part of all this, however, is that Clark disregarded her father’s strict desires.
