Stefanos Tsitsipas reached the third round of the French Open for a sixth time on Wednesday, after defeating a resilient Daniel Altmaier.
Under the roof on Court Suzanne Lenglen, the Greek overcame a Altmaier 6-3, 6-2, 6-7(2), 6-4 in two hours and 45 minutes.
Tsitsipas played flawlessly for the first hour, striking 27 winners in the opening two sets to move clear. However, the German refused to surrender and hit with perfect timing in the third-set tie-break to gain a foothold in the match.
Altmaier broke Tsitsipas’ serve for the first time in the fourth set. With a fifth set looming, Tsitsipas played more aggressively, breaking back for 4-4 before he powered to victory.
“It felt amazing. To get to play such marvellous tennis. I really enjoyed it,” Tsitsipas said after the match.
Clark is perhaps the most popular name in women’s basketball, but making the team is anything but a given. Rookies rarely make the squad, the last being Breanna Stewart in 2016.
“Obviously [Clark is] a great player and what she’s been able to accomplish in college, and now she’s taking it to the next level in the WNBA, and we’ll see how things go,” Stewart, 29, recently told The Los Angeles Times. “Obviously what I want to do is play alongside the other players that are named on this roster. I don’t know what that’s going to be, but I’m sure Caitlin has played USA Basketball before and I don’t think her time with USA Basketball is going to be done anytime soon.”
