After winning the French Open, Stefanos Tsitsipas sent a sophisticated message to Carlos Alcaraz, marking the Spaniard’s third Grand Slam victory. After nearly losing to Alexander Zverev in five sets, Alcaraz rallied to win at Roland Garros for the first time.
When they faced off in the quarterfinals of the , he prevailed over Tsitsipas in straight sets. Alcaraz had defeated his Greek opponent, who occasionally lost concentration and yelled angrily at his box, for the second year in a row.
Tsitsipas, however, was able to move over his disappointment at losing and congratulate Alcaraz on social media after defeating Zverev in the championship match.
“Well done on winning Roland Garros,” Tsitsipas tweeted on X, the former Twitter, mentioning Alcaraz. “You realized your dream and it was yours.”
Rafael Nadal, the 14-time French Open champion who lost to Zverev in the first round of this year’s competition, also thanked Alcaraz.
On social media, the 38-year-old posted: “Congratulations on your tremendous win! Huge! Very pleased for your accomplishments!”
Alcaraz, who is the youngest player to win a Grand Slam on every surface, became the sixth Spaniard to win the men’s singles title at the French Open on Sunday. In response to Nadal’s statement, he acknowledged that it was especially unique to walk in his shoes.
“Every Slam is unique, but this one is especially meaningful for both Spanish players and Spanish people,” Alcaraz remarked. Not only has Rafael Nadal won this competition, but many other outstanding Spanish players have as too.
“It means a lot to me to lift the trophy since I used to run home after school to turn on the TV to watch Rafa and this tournament, to watch every match. I find it incredible that I get to hold this trophy in my hands today.
“I must express my gratitude to everyone in Spain who has helped me today and during the competition. It’s wonderful that 14-time winner Rafa is here to congratulate you. It’s amazing since he has been my tennis idol ever since I began playing. However, the Spanish people as a whole have shown incredible support, and this trophy is also for them.”
