Following the tennis power couple’s brief reconciliation, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Paula Badosa’s mother delivered a brutal assessment of her son’s relationship.
The mother of Stefanos Tsitsipas has spoken out about her son’s reconciliation with Paula Badosa.
Despite declaring their breakup only weeks before, tennis’ power couple reignited their well-known romance last month and were scheduled to play mixed doubles together at the French Open.
The couple’s relationship statuses sparked intense attention, and fans were happy to see them reunited prior to this month’s Roland Garros event.
However, it didn’t seem to be popular with everyone, as the mother of the Greek, Julia Apostoli, recently voiced her opinions.
It seemed from her comments that she wasn’t entirely in favor of the reunion, as she seemed to be criticizing Badosa, 26.
Regarding her son’s relationship, she described him as “a female that is not a really confident person.”She requires a lot of assistance in order to grow and experience life.
“A decision has been made.” No one enquired about my viewpoint.
The two had developed into one of the most popular couples in the sport, earning the moniker “Tsitsidosa” and amassing over 87,000 followers on their joint Instagram account.
During her run at the Italian Open last month, Basoda had linked the breakup to that of another former tennis couple. They had been together for just over a year at the time of their split.
She told media at the Rome tournament following her first-round victory over Mirra Andreeva, “Emotionally, it hasn’t been easy these last few days, but I’m a strong person, so I’m trying to cope with everything the best I can.”
“I’m really pleased with who I am and how I’m doing.” This is very similar to the tale of Grigor [Dimitrov] and Maria [Sharapova], in which you meet the right person—possibly at the wrong time. That’s kind of how it is.
“The relationship was terrific when we were amazing.” At times, we have our own jobs and interests, and it’s best to keep our differences to ourselves.
After Tsitsipas lost to Daniil Medvedev in the semi-final of the Italian Open the previous year, Apostoli was seen exiting his box. The two appeared to argue, and pundits speculated that Apostoli had requested his mother to leave the stadium.
But they soon reconciled, and on Mother’s Day, the two sat down for a Tsitsipas interview with Apostoli on The Tennis Channel.
When they broke up, Badosa had compared the pair’s relationship to that of another powerful couple.
Now that they are reunited, Badosa claims she “met the right person, maybe at the wrong time.”
At the French Open, they were scheduled to play mixed doubles together, but they withdrew before their first round match.
Tsitsipas’s schedule prevented the couple from proceeding with their mixed doubles first-round match; the World No. 9 was also slated to play men’s doubles and men’s singles.
He noted that his partner both on and off the court understood, but he expressed his disappointment at having to make this decision.
When questioned by Mail Sport about why he withdrew, Tsitsipas responded, “I’m still bummed out about it.” “I have to put the blame on the Paris weather since everything has gone completely wrong in terms of organization.”
“It truly wasn’t what I expected to have to do—play two doubles matches in one day, especially the day before a match as important as tomorrow’s quarterfinal.” Anyone can only take so much at a time, so choosing to withdraw from one of the draws was a wise move.
Paula was the one who originally suggested it a few days ago, so I’m glad she understood, but I was still confident in my ability to play mixed doubles.
Although challenging, it’s important to remember that mixed doubles is not a weekly pursuit and is not a job. Therefore, I don’t think we should be too depressed about it because we will have the chance to repeat that in the future and play alongside each other in major tournaments on numerous occasions.
