Coach Philippoussis Is Rehired by Stefanos Tsitsipas Under New Scheme
Just two months after they made the decision to part ways, Stefanos Tsitsipas has welcomed a well-known figure back to his squad.
It is officially official that the tennis player and former top-10 player Mark Philippoussis have signed a new agreement.
The two were pictured together in Los Cabos. Tsitsipas ceased his collaboration with the Australian earlier this year.
He stated at the French Open that he made this choice because he only wanted one tutor. His father Apostolos coaches him as well on the Tour.
“I need a single coach who can give me all the knowledge, all the analysis, and all the tools I need to elevate my game at this point in my career. I think that less is more.He stated.
While Tsitsipas still holds this opinion, he has come to an agreement that allows him to collaborate with the two-time Grand Slam finalist once more.
SDNA reports that, aside from Grand Slams, Philippoussis and Apostolos will alternately support him at different competitions. The Australian is reportedly going to Los Cabos, Toronto, and Cincinnati alongside Tsitsipas.
Apostolos, meantime, is scheduled to travel to New York for the US Open, where it is anticipated Philippoussis will also be in attendance.
This new setup might stick around until the end of the current season, it is anticipated.
During the grasscourt swing, Philippoussis had been collaborating with Maria Sakkari on a trial basis. After her early withdrawal from Wimbledon, the world No. 9 expressed her desire to work with him going forward.
I can pick up a lot of knowledge from him. He’s a terrific coach and a nice guy, in my opinion. He’s been a huge help with my game, she added.
“It would be incredible if the three of us could carry on together.”
This week’s top seed at the Los Cabos Open is Tsitsipas. He’ll be vying for his first ATP title of the year and his tenth overall.
His biggest performances to date this season have been a run to the finals of the Australian Open in January and the Barcelona Open in April. He has won 35 of the 48 matches he has played.
