A fast start and a stifling defense propelled the University of Tennessee men’s basketball team to an easy victory Tuesday night.
The Volunteers kept its perfect early-season record intact with a 79-38 win over Appalachian State at Thompson-Boling Arena.
The Vols darted out to an early 16-1 lead and cruised their way into the win column for the third time this season.
Defensively, Tennessee (3-0) held Appalachian State (4-2) to just four field goals over the first 20 minutes of the contest.
On the offensive end, the Vols, who have struggled with their shooting out of the gate, shot 33-for-67 from the floor and had four players post double figures in the scoring column.
Victor Bailey Jr led the way with 13 points.
John Fulkerson and Jaden Springer each had 12 points, while Josiah-Jordan James added 11. James also had eight rebounds for the Vols, who led 36-13 at halftime.
