Tennessee / Knoxville (AP) Coach Josh Heupel of Tennessee received a large raise that places him among the highest-paid college football coaches following his leading the Volunteers to their finest season in almost two decades.

Heupel signed a contract on January 19 and will receive $9 million annually through the 2028 football season, according to the contract extension the school revealed on Tuesday.

This is more than the $5 million extension that was inked in July of last year, which extended his contract until 2027.

Danny White, the athletic director, stated that Heupel’s 18-8 record—which included an 11-2 campaign last season that was highlighted by an Orange Bowl victory over Clemson—speaks for itself.

White claimed that Heupel’s aggressive football style, along with that of his staff, has revitalized the program and the supporters.

Regarding the initiative that addressed what he described as a brief time of lethargy, White remarked, We only needed a creative leader like Josh Heupel to reignite the spark.

The best is yet to come, as Josh stated after our Orange Bowl victory, but it’s been nice to crash the party.
