In a recent interview, Emma Raducanu discussed how, sometimes, she wishes she had never won the US Open, as she had stated last year.
People change, and opinions do too, so Raducanu’s disagreement with anything she said a year ago is not unusual. In 2023, Raducanu made headlines when she remarked, in a private interview, that there are moments when she wishes she had never won the US Open.
That is undoubtedly an intriguing claim given that, despite all the bad things that resulted from it, she also rose to fame and underwent a whole transformation in her life.
That’s the reason Raducanu said she wouldn’t swap it for anything in her most recent interview with US Open. Naturally, she wouldn’t, as all of her opportunities following her victory at the US Open stemmed from that.
It genuinely transformed her life in less than two weeks, and considering the challenges she faces off the tennis court, it probably did so in the direction of improvement.
Yes, I believe that at the time I was saying such things, I may not have had enough time to pause, think, and reflect. Right now, I wouldn’t trade my situation for anything.”
Raducanu was suffering from injuries at the time of the interview, and she was worried what would happen to her because of all the outside noise. It was a very unusual period for her.
It was all a blur, and she probably blurted something without giving it any thought. She is obviously quite appreciative that it occurred because hardly many people get to experience it.
But I believe that I was enmeshed in the chaos that followed, being swept up in everything. And I’m really glad that I did; since then, I have recovered from my disability with a new outlook.”
Raducanu renounced her earlier claims to be a Grand Slam victor, and she will undoubtedly be much more motivated to add one now.
