Emma Raducanu v Ons Jabeur LIVE: Score and updates from Abu Dhabi Open clash | The Independent

In order to ‘give herself justice’ and reach her full potential, Emma Raducanu needs to put in some injury-free time, according to former World No. 4 Tim Henman.

Raducanu’s 2021 US Open victory propelled him tennis prominence. But the British player hasn’t advanced past the third round of a Grand Slam since then. Actually, her lone singles title on tour to date is from the victory at Flushing Meadows.

Raducanu’s downturn has been mostly attributed to injuries. She has experienced a number of minor and major fitness issues over the past few years, which have restricted her on-court play.

Raducanu most recently had minor surgery to address a reoccurring problem from last year on both her wrists and ankle. Before making her return at the ASB Auckland last month, it kept her out of play for nearly eight months.

Regarding the previous World No. 10’s injury problems, Henman stated that she needs to accumulate a string of games played without suffering any setbacks. He stated to Metro:

“I think it would be amazing if Emma Raducanu could compete in 20 tournaments without experiencing any injuries. She’s too skilled to miss out on the victories. She really is that good, in my opinion. It’s far less about the result and much more about the process. She still lacks a great deal of experience. Even if you count the number of games she has participated in on the main tour, it is still quite small. She needs to get both the experience of being on tour and physical resilience. She’ll be able to honor herself then. The 49-year-old British player continued, “After the US Open, she was still attempting to increase her physicality at events, which is difficult to accomplish.

How has Emma Raducanu fared so far in 2024?

It wasn’t exactly how Emma Raducanu had hoped to return from her injury at the ASB Auckland. She battled through a lengthy first-round match against qualifier Elena-Gabriela Ruse before triumphing 6-3, 4-6, 7-5.

The first two sets of Raducanu’s second-round match against Elina Svitolina ended in a tiebreak, and the Ukrainian took the third set easily, 6-1. The British player defeated Shelby Rogers in straight sets to begin her Australian Open campaign, but she fell short against Wang Yafan in the next encounter.

The British player was eliminated in the second round of the Abu Dhabi Open, her third straight competition. After defeating Marie Bouzkova 6-4, 6-1, the second-seeded Ons Jabeur was defeated 6-4, 6-1.

Raducanu will now play her first-round match at the Qatar Open on Sunday, February 11, against Anhelina Kalinina of Ukraine.
