Charlie Woods, Tiger Woods’ teenage son, competes in the first US Open qualifier but fails to advance.

Tiger Woods’ 15-year-old son was attempting to cross the first hurdle towards qualifying for June’s US Open at Pinehurst; Charlie Woods finished nine over in a local qualifying event in Florida, with only the top five moving on to final qualifying for the year’s third major.

The 15-year-old, whose father is three-time US Open winner Tiger Woods, blasted a nine-over 81 at his local qualifier at The Legacy Golf and Tennis Club in Florida, finishing the one-day event in a tie for 61st place.

The top five finishers in the 84-player event qualified for this year’s US Open, which will be held at Pinehurst No 2 for the first time in a decade. The event will be shown live on Sky Sports Golf from June 13–16.

The adolescent Woods competed in one of 109 local qualifying events held around the United States and Canada in April and May, with the top finishers advancing to the 13 final qualifying venues in late May and early June.

There were 10,052 entries for the 2024 open qualifying.

Woods’ scorecard showed one birdie, four bogeys, and three double bogeys. He scored 40 on the front nine and 41 on the back nine.

It was the teenager’s second try to qualify for a tour event this year, following his performance in a Cognizant Classic pre-qualifier in February. He shot 86 on that occasion.

The 15-year-old shot an eight-over-par 81 on Thursday at The Legacy Golf and Tennis Club in Florida.

The young golfer, who is following in his father’s footsteps as an 82-time PGA Tour winner, began with a bogey on the first hole, then a double bogey on the par-five second. He kept his game steady with back-to-back pars before recording his first and only birdie of the day on the par-three fifth.
