Tiger Woods’ early arrival and fresh appearance at Valhalla demonstrate his resolve to compete in the PGA Championship.
Tiger Woods has recreated a major as he prepares to return to Valhalla.
Tiger Woods appeared to be making a comeback at the PGA Championship when he was observed rehearsing at Kentucky’s Valhalla Golf Club. Additionally, the sports legend’s return with his once-iconic appearance has left many perplexed.
The 48-year-old, who boasts an amazing 82 PGA Tour victories, has been playing on a part-time schedule since a vehicle accident in February 2021 that left him with potentially fatal injuries.
In the last two years, Woods has only played in eight competitive events and has only completed the full 72 holes four times. Next week, he will make his next appearance in the US PGA Championship, which he has won four times already, including in 2000 at this very location.
Additionally, fans noticed that Woods had grown facial hair during the 2013 season as he arrived at Valhalla with a new goatee.
While the majority of his PGA Tour rivals were competing in the Wells Fargo Championship, Woods was spotted on the Valhalla driving range on Sunday, getting ready for the second major championship of the year.
The golf superstar has only made two appearances since the year began. He played in the Genesis Invitational in February, where he also acts as the tournament host. Unfortunately, Woods had to withdraw from the competition halfway through, as he has done on other occasions since making a return in 2022.
After finishing his first 18 holes at Riviera on day one, the tournament host’s trip came to an abrupt end on day two when he had to quit after just six holes in the second round. Not an injury, but illness—more precisely, influenza—was the reason for his departure.
Following a two-month break, Woods made a reappearance in the Masters in April, where he once again made Augusta National history. At the Masters, the American beat legends Fred Couples and Gary Player, who had each made 23 cuts, with a record-breaking 24 straight.
But less than a day later, Woods achieved an unwelcome milestone by shooting his worst 18-hole round of his major championship career—a 10-over-par 82. Woods finished all 72 holes despite being exhausted, coming in 60th place at 16 over par for the tournament.
The 15-time major champion maintained his optimism about his playing in spite of the difficulties he encountered. A month ago, he declared, “It was a good week.”
“In general, the week went well. Considering that we hadn’t participated in a full tournament for a very long time, I believe that the fights on Thursday and Friday were excellent.
