After a remarkable nine-year run with the Houston Astros, Alex Bregman is moving on, despite the team’s efforts to keep the two-time All-Star in Houston. One of the teams interested in securing his talents is the Toronto Blue Jays.

In a previous article discussing Juan Soto, I argued that the Blue Jays’ experiment—building around Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette—has fallen short. It’s unclear if the Jays will keep Guerrero and Bichette or look to make moves at the Winter Meetings, but if they stay, Bregman could be a crucial addition to rekindle the Jays’ success.

Reuniting with former Astros teammate George Springer, Bregman would bring experience and reliability to the Jays’ infield, which is currently populated by younger, less-established players. Toronto needs an upgrade at third base, and Bregman’s skill with the bat would certainly meet that need. With a career slash line of .272/.366/.453 and a Silver Slugger award from 2019, Bregman’s bat could be the game-changer Toronto’s lineup has been lacking.
