Toronto, Ontario — George Springer drove in a run and scored twice as the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Cleveland Guardians 5-0 on Saturday. Six pitchers combined for an eight-hitter.
The Blue Jays, who are 26-3 when scoring five runs or more, were led by rookie Addison Barger, who got his first big league RBI, and Isiah Kiner-Falefa, who had two hits.
Trevor Richards, the opener, threw 31 pitches in 2 1/3 innings and gave up one hit. Over the course of four innings, Bowden Francis (3-2) allowed four hits, all singles, while Tim Mayza and Zach Pop each recorded one out. Toronto’s fifth shutout was completed by Nate Pearson after Génesis Cabrera worked the eighth.
